Laoxianchang is the name given to the downtown area of the old city. The newly-built Laoxianchang Cultural Square, with Jade Cong the sculpture representing Liangzhu Culture as its center, features an integration of expert block design, fascinating lighting, and flowing fountain into the sunken square center – with an overlapping fountain in the middle and stone carvings in the surrounding walls – and a liquid crystal super-wide screen to make itself a welcome plaza of the city. The Square, filled with modern style and historical atmosphere, is a landmark scenic spot of the old downtown area. Since its completion, the Square has been taken as a major outdoor facility for recreation, celebration and other public affairs. It has consolidated and improved the status of the old downtown as the commercial and cultural center of the city.
