Teaming with  rivers, lakes, streams and ponds, Changshu enjoys a history of over 5000 years. Local people have built a lot of bridges to make their moving around easier. By the end of 2008, there were 426 bridges in the urban area (including Shanghu Scenic Area, Hi-tech Zone, Yanjiang Development Zone, Dongnan Development Zone, and other scenic spots).
